Mark A. Pierce, MD, FAAP has over 10 years of clinical experience in the practice of medicine. He received his undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. After earning his MD with highest distinction also from Indiana University, Dr. Pierce completed his internship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and his residency at the Methodist Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Pediatrics. He has started successful practices in South Bend, Indiana and in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dr. Pierce continues to provide outpatient, inpatient and consultative patient care.
With close to ten years of healthcare IT experience, Dr. Pierce was most recently Chief Medical Information Officer at Parkview Health, a five hospital IDN in northeastern Indiana. At Parkview Health, Dr. Pierce was focused on medication safety and quality while developing technology solutions that map to the cognitive and workflow needs of physicians and clinicians.
Dr. Pierce has spoken nationally on topics including knowledge management in healthcare delivery and the cognitive design of healthcare information technology systems. He is currently on faculty of the American College of Physician Executives where he co-authored their first course on knowledge management in healthcare IT. He is also a member of the American Medical Directors of Information Systems, the American Medical Informatics Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association.
